Joseph “Joe” W. Grinstead, Jr.

May 16, 1977 - April 7, 2018

Joseph “Joe” W. Grinstead, Jr., 40, was a lifelong resident of Sheridan, IN and a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and coach. Joe passed away on April 7, 2018. Joe was born on May 16, 1977 to Joseph and Phyllis “Maxine” (Jett) Grinstead.

Joe was an alumni of the Sheridan High School graduating class of 1996. After graduating high school, Joe attended the University of Evansville where he received a degree in engineering and a minor in math. Joe graduated cum laude. Joe worked for American Structurepoint as a Civil Engineer. He was very dedicated and skilled in his role of management. Joe was a member of Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church where he grew in faith. It was his faith that raised his family. Joe was a very dedicated member of his community. He was the President of Sheridan Community Sports, where he also served as the youth baseball chair for several years. Joe coached his three sons in baseball, basketball, and football as well as many other children. He shared his passion of youth sports by developing life lessons to the young children of Sheridan. Joe loved coaching, teaching and mentoring children. Joe donated his time with the Boone County 4-H and would spent countless hours in his barn with his three sons teaching them the responsibilities of caring for and showing pigs, lambs, and horses. Joe and his family were equestrians and members of the American Quarter Horse Association. Joe was a member of the Indiana Gun Club and would compete in shooting competitions. His enjoyment of these competitions passed on to his three sons as they competed in 4-H shooting events.

Joe met the love of his life, Kristy (Burtron) Grinstead in high school. He then married his high school sweetheart on October 21, 2000 at the Sheridan Bible Church. Together, they have three devoted sons; Evan, Hayden and Owen. Joe is survived by his parents, Joseph “Joe” Grinstead and Phyllis “Maxine” (Jett) Grinstead; five siblings, Tina McMahon, Tara Ziegler, Patrick Grinstead, Lynn (Julie) Grinstead and Lyle Grinstead. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, two great-nephews and three great nieces, along with his father and mother in-law, Carl and Elaine Burtron. Joe is survived by his  brother in-law, Brad (Megan) Burtron; sister in-law, Kim (Scott) Sedwick and a niece and nephew. Joe also leaves behind many friends. Preceding Joe in death is his daughter, Allison Jane in 2003 and niece, Avery Burtron.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church, 1545 W. 226th Street, Sheridan, IN. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 3-8 pm for calling. Rev. Steve Martin, assisted by Rev. Frank Campa and Rev. Harrell Wilson will be officiating Joe’s service.
