Billy Stone Obituary

Billy W. Stone, age 85, a lifelong resident of Sheridan, answered the heavenly call on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

Born on January 16, 1938, to the late Chester and Ethel (Brooks) Stone in Ekin, Indiana, Bill attended Sheridan High School, graduating with the Class of 1956. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army and, in December 1960, returned to the embrace of his high school sweetheart, Annetta (Ogle) Stone. The two exchanged vows at the Wesleyan Church on December 18th, 1960, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey together. Annetta preceded him in death in 2021.

After his military service, Bill embarked on a career at Dow Chemical while simultaneously pursuing his education at Purdue University (IUPUI). Juggling night school, family responsibilities, and farming, he demonstrated remarkable dedication. Fourteen years later, he proudly earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Technology.

Transitioning to Indianapolis Power and Light, Bill applied his skills as an electrical engineer, relishing the challenges of intricate projects. Notably, he served as the lead engineer for the completion of the Circle Center Mall in downtown Indianapolis, showcasing his ability to conquer any project.

A devout couple, Bill and Annetta were active members of Northview Church in Carmel, IN, and the Wesleyan Church in Sheridan, IN. Their shared passions included gardening, travel, and RV adventures across the United States, with memorable journeys to Texas and Alaska. A skilled woodworker, as he in the early 60's, built the family home. Bill also found joy in crafting cabinets and refurbishing pedal tractors and airplanes. His collection of die-cast metal toy tractors was a testament to his appreciation for craftsmanship.

An enthusiastic sports fan, Bill cheered on the Indianapolis Colts and remained loyal to his alma mater, the Purdue Boilermakers. Golf, skeet shooting, and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, each pursued with a competitive spirit and a love for the outdoors.

A man of unwavering faith and integrity, Bill imparted these values to his three sons, Bruce (Diana) Stone of Fairland, IN., Barry (Stephanie) Stone of Vincennes, IN., and Brad (Wanda) Stone of Sheridan, IN. Proudly, he was a grandfather to Zachary, Kristin, Kaitlyn, Brent, and Jackson Stone, and great-grandfather to Miles Crider. Survived by his brothers Ron (Mary), Randy (Vicki), and Jerry, he was preceded in death by his infant son Brent in 1967 and siblings Wade, Arbie, Rosemary, Berbina, Ray, and Helen.

Funeral services in celebration of Bill's life will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Six Points Church, 1545 W. 226th Street, Sheridan, Indiana 46069.
