Howard Davis Obituary

Howard Davis, 96, of Sheridan, formerly of Indianapolis, was called home on Friday October 6, 2023. He was born on November 29, 1926, to the late Roy Vernon and Harriet Olive (Linkel) Davis in Indianapolis, Indiana. Howard was a graduate of Manual High School.  Soon after graduation his draft number was called to join his fellow Americans in World War 2.  He joined the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Winged Arrow Transport Ship and was awarded the Bronze Star.  Howard proudly served his country!  When the war ended, and he returned home, he was hired by Sears and Roebuck, working as a salesman.  Through hard work and commitment he was able to accomplish many goals set by his employer.  He became a division manager and helped open a Sears and Roebuck store in Greenwood.
Howard loved fishing and would go every chance he got; he eventually got a boat and built a cabin in Northern Michigan where he and his family would spend a lot of time fishing, skiing, and tubing.  He and his late wife Wilma enjoyed traveling, and one of their favorite destinations was Hawaii. He was always up for a game of euchre.  In his younger years he enjoyed playing golf.  He was an avid fan of the Colts and IU sports.
Howard and Wilma were people of faith, and they made this the foundation for themselves and their children. It was very important to them that their children knew Jesus. He was a member of University Heights United Methodist Church his entire life.
The most important thing to him was family, and they will always cherish the many values he taught them.  They will never forget his sense of humor--he enjoyed teasing everyone. His family said he never met a stranger.
Howard leaves behind his loving family, his two daughters Cathy (George) Davis-Good, and Cindy (John) Davis-Mohler. He was a loving grandfather to Kellie Good, Kimberlee (Joe) Homsy, Adam Good, and Amanda (Rick) Mohler-Cleary. Howard was a proud great grandfather to Damon and Daelin Winston, Ayana and Sam Homsy, and Claire Cleary. He was a loving brother to Ruth Ellen Fisher.  He treasured his precious dog, Sophie.
Preceding Howard in death is his loving wife Wilma (Theil) Davis in 2011, and his two brothers Chester and Ralph Davis.
