John "Dan" Ogle Obituary

John Daniel Ogle

June 21, 1948 – April 16, 2023

John Daniel Ogle, 74 of Carmel formerly of Sheridan passed away peacefully on April 16, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on June 21, 1948, to the late John Robert and Margaret Rowena (Rawlings) Ogle in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dan was a graduate of Sheridan High School, Class of 1966. After high school he attended Lincoln Tech Institute, and then went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps for two years.

Dan grew up on his family’s farm and it was only natural that he continued to farm his family’s ground as they did. Dan planted and harvested corn, beans, and wheat every year; being very strategic as to how he would rotate his crops. Along with farming he also raised hogs. He would work and maintain his own farm equipment. Dan drove a school bus for Sheridan Community Schools for 25 years.

Everyone that knew Dan knew that he was humble and kind and never met a stranger. Dan would help anyone he could, especially his friends, whether it was helping them finish harvesting or doing electrical work, he set the example for his family. When he wasn’t farming and even after he retired, he could always be found tinkering with something and always took pride in keeping his yard looking immaculate. Dan was a former member of the Sheridan Lions Club, and he was a member of the Sheridan Agra Partners Farmers Club, and a member of the NRA.

He was an avid outdoorsman he loved to fish and hunt; he shared his loved for fishing and hunting with his son and grandsons.

He looked forward to his hunting trips every year to Kentucky with his boys, he wanted to bring home a deer or a turkey every year on his trips, but the most important thing to him was being able to spend quality time with his family. His son Jason was in 4-H and he showed pigs and cows, Dan spent countless hours in the barn teaching him how to raise his 4-H animals.

Dan met the love of his life Jackie in Noblesville while riding around with his buddies, after convincing her to go on a date with him; He knew he was going to spend the rest of his life with her. The two of them were married on May 2, 1969, and they have been at each other’s side for the last 54 years. Dan always looked forward to traveling with Jackie and they went on many adventures together.

Dan leaves behind his loving wife Jacqueline “Jackie” (Kleyla) Ogle, their son Jason (Rebecca) Ogle. He was a proud grandfather to Owen Daniel Ogle, and Elliott Russell Ogle, and Dan’s bonus son Steve Harrison. He was a loving brother to Linda Crail, and Leah (Mark) Raines, he was also survived by his two brothers-in-law Warren Crawford and Ed (Tina) Kleyla. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dan in death is his two siblings Robert William Ogle and Mary Margaret Crawford.
