Ruth Mary (Neal) Abbitt

Ruth Mary Abbitt, 93, died February 12, 2021 in Westfield, IN at Wellbrooke of Westfield. She was born at home in Sheridan, IN to Earl Neal and Ethel Pickett Neal on September 24,1927. Growing up on a small family farm, Ruth Mary was educated in a one-room school, later graduating from Sheridan High School. She attended Purdue University, but returned home to marry Charles Abbitt and start a life sharing the responsibilities of the farm and raising three children. Having survived the Great Depression, the Palm Sunday tornado, and even Covid-19, her faith never waivered, and her kindness and sweet nature masked an inner strength that was the marvel of all who knew her.  The family would like to thank the staff at Saunders Glen and Wellbrooke of Westfield for her care the last few years. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Steve) Brinegar of Westfield, IN, and Susan (Donnie) Law of Tipton, IN. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles Abbitt and her son Steven Abbitt predeceased her. A memorial and burial will be held later this spring in Sheridan, IN.
