Obituary

William “Gene” Eugene Jones, 84 of Celina, TN. formerly of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday August 31, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 1, 1938, to the late William Thomas and Flossie (Williams) Jones in Geneva, Kentucky. Gene met the love of his life Karen Sue (Rice) Jones. Gene and Karen wanted to get married, so they decided to elope, and they were married on July 5, 1958, in Shawneetown, Illinois; and the two of them have been at each other’s sides for 64 years.

Gene drove a truck for Wallace Grain, and he would look forward to his stops during the day so he could visit with his friends. He worked for the Wallace family for 36 years when he retired.

After retiring he and Karen decided to move on the river in Celina, Tennessee. Gene loved to garden and every year he looked forward to canning his tomatoes. He also enjoyed fishing and he could be found on any given day with a line in the river. He took a lot of pride in taking care of his yard and he became quite skilled at catching moles. After a while Gene decided he wanted to go to work so he started working two days a week at the recycling and trash facility, where he made a lot of friends. He would always tell people he worked for the Mayor of Clay County, Tennessee.

Gene’s favorite thing he looked forward too was when his family would come and visit especially his grandchildren, he would spend hours doing stuff with them.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years Karen, their children Gayla (Terry) Hart, and Bryan (Erin) Jones. He was a loving grandfather to Joshua, Taylor, Jacob, Craig (Cortney), Brooke, Laura, Danielle, and Dawn. Gene was a proud great grandfather to 18 and a great great-grandfather to 1. He was a devoted brother to Elsie Clark, Geraldine (Richard) Tyler, Wanda (Charlie) Shelton, Joyce Deno, Janice Hill and a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Preceding Gene in death is his sons Michael in 1989, Rick in 2016 and his daughter Rebecca in 2022, his two grandsons Matthew Jacob and Casey along with his siblings Charlie and Tommy Jones, Mamie Cavanaugh, Patsy LaRue, Mary Ardel Parker, and Margie Floyd.
