James Gerald Riggs, 87, peacefully completed the work of this life at 12:45am on June 29, 2018 at his residence in Noblesville, Indiana. Service will be held at 6:30pm following visitation 2:00-6:30pm on Monday, July 2, 2018 at The Pentecostals of Westfield, 16162 Carey Rd, Westfield Indiana 46074. Graveside service is 10:00am on Tuesday, July 3, at Riverside Cemetery in Noblesville, Indiana. Arrangements are handled by Fisher Family Funeral Services of Sheridan, Indiana.
James was born on March 16, 1931 in Kokomo, Indiana to Gerald and Myrtle (Little) Grinstead. He married Stella M. Lawman on November 17, 1950, and together they raised two loving, devoted daughters. James is a United States Veteran with honorable discharge and served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Jerry) Jenkins of Sheridan and Kathy (Randy) Adams of Noblesville; his grandchildren, Annette (Joseph) Donovan, Brent (Jennifer) Jenkins, Stacy Jenkins, Katricia (David) Sanchez, Tony (Rhonda) Adams, and Shelly (Troy) Bibbs; his 8 great-grandchildren; his brother Larry Riggs; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 66 years, Stella; his siblings, Nancy Denman, Fred Riggs, and Bev Doyon.
For more than 50 years, James was a licensed minister in the United Pentecostal Church International. His years of faithful, committed service to the Lord (who he often called his Precious Master) include ministry as youth leader, assistant pastor, pastor of Huntington United Pentecostal Church for 23 years, various positions in sectional leadership, and caretaker for the Indiana UPCI district campgrounds. Having a deep love for the Bible, he was a living example of II Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” But he didn’t stop there. Rev. Riggs was propelled to tell everyone he met about his Master and the truth of His Word. If you ever met him, you most likely became engaged in an enriching conversation involving a small, colorful stick and trivia questions on the Word of God. His passion for spreading the Gospel most recently resulted in the publication of tract literature which is already being shared in places around the world.
Jim enjoyed other hobbies and pastimes and always seemed to be expanding his interests and skills. He was an enthusiastic fisherman, an able craftsman and woodworker, and knew his way around the kitchen (most often frying up his latest catch). He was a bargain hunter and garage sale aficionado, on both sides of the table.
If you would like to give in lieu of flowers, you may make contributions to The Pentecostals of Westfield.

Jerry & Linda,

I was so sorry for you and your family to hear of your father's passing. He was a great man of God, much respected and well remembered. I know you will miss him. But we all have the assurance of Heaven we will see him again soon. My prayers are with you both. May God keep and comfort you.
